Convenience has a useful, limited role
A home hearing check can make it easier to start paying attention to your listening experience. You can follow the instructions in your own space, pause when needed and keep a record of the responses. Those benefits do not depend on claiming that ordinary headphones produce a clinical measurement.
Our free hearing check is for adults and provides a graph and download without an account or payment. You do not have to request AI text or contribute money to unlock them. That makes it an accessible optional activity, not a requirement before seeking help.
What this check measures
You respond to repeated tones at six pitches in each ear. The software uses those responses to select subsequent playback settings and confirm responses. The graph describes what happened with your equipment during that session.
Device volume, headphone response, fit and background noise are uncontrolled. The displayed levels are relative settings rather than clinical dB HL or measured dB SPL. A quiet, comfortable setup helps you follow the activity but does not calibrate it or make it diagnostically accurate.
We do not claim that this implementation has been clinically validated. Research about a different online test would not establish the accuracy of this one. A familiar-looking graph and repeated tones are not, by themselves, evidence of clinical equivalence.
Use the free flow with clear expectations
Prepare a quiet room, check that the left and right samples reach the intended ears and practise responding. Keep the volume fixed afterward. Tap when you hear a tone, even faintly; if you hear nothing, wait. You can pause or stop, and should stop if anything feels uncomfortable.
At the end, read both the graph and table. Limits and inconclusive points are kept distinct from response values. Download the report before leaving. Do not repeat the check while increasing volume to obtain a more reassuring picture.
AI is optional explanation, not improved measurement
If available, the free AI service can explain the recorded pattern after you consent to sending the responses to Our AI. It does not control the test, calibrate headphones or make the measurements more precise. The explanation can be wrong and does not diagnose or recommend treatment.
Your result remains usable when the AI service is busy, fails or is skipped. The downloadable report includes a completed explanation if you requested one; otherwise, the graph and table still stand on their own.
Know when to choose professional care
A professional appointment can include different tests according to the concern being assessed. The NHS explains options for hearing tests and what an appointment may involve. You do not need to complete a home check first.
